Lynn Clements Speaks to Visitors at Holiday Inn

Lynn Clements, Director Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center

Lynn, Director of the Virginia Aquarium and Marine Science Center shared her formula for success with us in December when she, Peter Sollogub, our architect, and John Stebbins, Senior Principal of the Cambridge Seven Architects spent three days here to give us some insight into "how to make it happen".

As a result we have redesigned our project into phases.

Phase One will be a 40,000 square foot aquarium and museum.

Phase Two will be a major expansion including, a Butterfly Atrium Discovery Center, River Walk, Aviary, Nature Trails, and an Environmental Research and Scientific Center.

Lynn stressed very strongly that in order to fundraise, we first need to "Friendraise." On that note, we are asking all our supporters to take a few minutes and write a letter to us stating their support for the project. This does not incur any obligation on your part. This is a very important and appreciated contribution you can give to the project. These letters are very helpful in our future fundraising efforts, as the fundraiser can show the community's support to prospective donors from around the country.

Lynn spoke on raising the money needed for the Musarium. "The Virginia Aquarium used many economic engines, such as partnerships and grant monies, the media, public relations, and advertising, which all in turn helped raise a significant amount of money toward the aquarium."

She said, "There are four P’s that I follow.
Product is what you have to offer.
     People are those involved.
Personal is making the customer come first.
Passion is what I know you all have."

"This Musarium can turn this region around," she further said. "You as a community need to develop something that will address the future. Many people say you can’t do this, but I know you can."
